Set in rural Denmark in the late 19th century, “Babette’s Feast” (1987) is the story of how two devoutly Christian spinsters came to have a French maid, and the difference she made in their lives.
When Babette, who escaped the Franco-Prussian War, wins the lottery, she provides the locals with an incredible culinary experience that opens their eyes to the fact that earthly pleasures can indeed be spiritual.



“Babette’s Feast” won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 1988.
This beautifully artistic film is based on a book by the same name by Karen Blixen (Isak Dinesen), published in 1958.
Directed by Gabriel Axel, starring Stephane Audran, Birgitte Federspiel, Bodil Kjer, Ghita Norby, Jean-Philippe Lafont, and Jarl Kulle.
