The Subtle Power of Gemstone/Crystal Healing
And why have no scientific studies addressed this question in the modern world?
Gemstone/crystal healing dates back to Ancient Egypt and Sumeria, and may be far older. They were the first to don precious and semi-precious stones for healing.
Does it work? Yes, to a degree, gemstones can make a difference with certain conditions, particularly if one is sensitive and open to it.
How does it work? Various forms of matter have different vibrational energies. Gemstones have a molecular structure that harmonizes well with the human body. So other pleasant vibrations, like soothing music, can also be healing.
Often one must wear a gemstone or crystal for a whole month or two before any difference can be felt. Healing with gemstones and crystals is highly personalized, and may be combined with other healing modalities (Reiki, tuning forks, flower essence treatments, Bach flowers, moxa, acupuncture, acupressure and healing massage).
Hematite, for example, is known to help clear out negativity and restore groundedness and courage.
Gemstone Healing In History
According to the ancient papyrus records, being a doctor in Ancient Egypt was a highly professionalized role that included secular physicians, priests (or magicians, who focused on healing spiritual ailments), and at the top of the hierarchy were physician-priests who drew upon medical and spiritual knowledge to treat patient holistically.
Ancient Egypt’s doctors had amassed an impressive body of scientific knowledge about human health that included contraceptives, complex herbal remedies that contained hundreds of carefully balanced ingredients (proven effective in recent studies), and gemstones such as lapis lazuli.
Gemstone Use Today
The popularity of crystal/gemstone healing continues to rise despite the lack of scientific data. In Dec. 2022, Forbes Health even had an article on “Healing Crystals.”
But a great deal of data has proven the efficacy of acupuncture, which operates on a similar but far less subtle principle of energy flow in the body, acupuncture being a far more potent treatment.
The most important factor in healing to select the right gemstone (or Bach flower) for your individual personal needs. Everyone is different.
And yes, the placebo effect (mind over matter) is real and ever-present to some degree (usually in 30-60% of patients), although not with every medical condition (obviously). Which is to say that even if carrying or wearing gemstones or putting it under your pillow had no effect at all except for the placebo effect, powerful belief in the treatment (or any treatment) makes it pretty effective.
Plus gemstone healing is very relaxing and beautiful, which itself is an enormous and welcomed help.
