False Prophets, Prayer & Powers that Were

In a commercial world, many people have used God’s promises and his enormous love as a mere marketing ploy.
An estimated 11 out of 12 televangelists on network television were not exactly what they seemed to be. Some started out sincere and were changed by the money that flooded in, and some actually seem to be plants judging by their strange Richard Nixon post-Watergate energy. Wasn’t Billy Graham a 33rd-degree Freemason? He sure made it a point to hound down all the presidents till he finally got one to bite as if his self-worth were wrapped up in social status, not in God’s love at all, and his sermons are oddly glorifying suffering and death rather than Christ’s victory over sin.
Many of today’s prophets on YouTube also seem to be missing the mark. Sadly, many may start out sincere with sincere talent, but then are saddled with the identity of “prophet,” like a 9-5 job, pressuring them to produce a new word daily. But that’s not how it works at all. Can you imagine if King David’s prophet Nathan had felt he had to give David a new word everyday, like the morning presidential daily briefing the president receives? People in the ancient world were far more connected to how things actually work in the spirit world. They knew that God speaks when he speaks and there’s nothing you can do to get him to perform on command like a 1-trick pony.
It’s not easy to discern who is a false prophet apart from God’s revelation — they are usually adept at saying all the right things and looking caring — but here are a few guidelines for sussing them out:

Prayer
The ancients also knew that prayer takes time. You can’t just say a few words of good wishes and expect your prayers to have a real impact. It’s the God who created the universe that you are addressing and you need to give the Holy Spirit time to do her work (the Holy Spirit being a feminine word in Hebrew and Aramaic). Give the Spirit time to fill and heal you and the people you’re praying for, and show you whatever relevant information you may need to know.

Recall that in the South, all the judges, preachers, politicians, and lawyers belonged to the KKK.
