Gemstones for Writers, Including an Observation of the Power of Amethyst by Leonardo da Vinci
Chelcedony, Quartz Crystal, Lapis Lazuli & Amethyst
As with most things, the stone that is right for you to help with your writing depends on what you need from the stone. Some people need more imagination (Lapis Lazuli) some need grounding (Chalcedony).
Here are some stones writers use.
Lapis Lazuli
This stone is great for boosting creativity and helping you feel free to express yourself. Its regal blue color stimulates the imagination. Not bad.
Ancient Egyptions used it widely as they believed it had the power to lead the soul into immortality and open the heart to love.
Chalcedony
Chalcedony is a grounding and nurturing gemstone. Said to be able to actually absorb negative energy, it promotes good vibrations and helps bring you into harmony with yourself.
In history, Jewish, Christian, Islamic and Buddhist religious traditions have valued Chalcedony. It was used especially by the Romans to make amulets to ward off negativity as well as signet rings and other jewelry. Most popular is Blue Turkish Chalcedony. Personally, I like it in green.
Amethyst (purple quartz)
Need help sharpening your instincts? or setting writing objectives? Amethyst is for you. Sensitive people can sense a deep sense of love emanating from the stone, but the stone “dies” if left in direct sunlight.
It is said to help concentration & confidence, chase away nightmares & anger, and lessen impatience.
The name literally means “not drunk.” Greeks and Romans drank wine from amethyst goblets to slow intoxication/prevent nasty hangovers.
Leonardo da Vinci observed that amethyst was able to eradicate evil thoughts and stimulate intellectual abilities! (Perhaps these two things are related.)
And medieval soldiers wore amethyst amulets for protection and to give them victory.
