Amos is one of the minor "prophets of doom" of the Old Testament (written c. 760-750 B.C.). He was a simple shepherd with a fiery message. His name means "Burden Bearer," as surely all prophets are. Amos lived in Judah (the southern kingdom that broke away from Israel) under King Uzziah.
Israel (the northern kingdom) never listened to Amos or any of their prophets and never had a single king that obeyed God, but Judah had several kings wise enough to listen. A faithful remnant of the people from Judah also listened to Amos and were saved.
Here is a list of the 8 sins nations will be destroyed for committing. Israel is listed last because it is the nation for which God reserves his harshest judgment. Nearly the entire Book of Amos is an indictment against Israel for its many shameless sins and foretells its judgment. But if a nation is willing to repent and turn from its sins, God is merciful.
1. Damascus: Cruelty, Amos 1:2-5
The Assyrians in the fertile land of Damascus were well-known in biblical times for the extreme cruelty of its military. "Because they have threshed Gilead with implements of iron. I will send a fire into the house of Hazael, which shall devour the palaces of Ben-Hadad."
2. Gaza: Taking captives, Amos 1:6-8
Modern slavery is one of the largest growing industries and it is a direct result of war, which creates refugees and migrants. "I will not turn away its punishment because they took captive the whole captivity
To deliver them up to Edom....the remnant of the Philistines shall perish."
3. Tyre: Taking their own (Semitic) brothers captive, Amos 1:9-10
"...because they delivered up the whole captivity to Edom, and did not remember the covenant of brotherhood."
4. Edom: Making war on their brothers without pity, Amos 1:11-12
"I will not turn away its punishment, because he pursued his brother with the sword, and cast off all pity..."
5. Ammon: Murdering to enlarge their territory, Amos 1:13-15
"...I will kindle a fire in the wall of Rabah, and it shall devour its palaces..."
6. Moab: Regicide without even giving a proper burial, Amos 2:1-3
"Because he burned the bones of the king...I will send a fire upon Moab, and it shall devour the palaces of Kerioth..."
7. Judah: Despising God's law, led astray by tradition, Amos 2:4-5
"Because they have despised the law of the Lord, and have not kept his commandments. Their lies lead them astray, lies which their fathers followed."
8. Israel: Enslaving the poor who were lured in by false "charity," perversion, breaking agreements, lawlessness, and silencing God's prophets, Amos 2:6-16
"I will not turn away its punishment, because they sell the righteous for silver, and the poor for a pair of sandals....Therefore flight shall perish from the swift, the strong shall not strengthen his power, nor shall the mighty deliver himself..."
But the end of the last chapter, God promises restoration for the faithful remnant of the descendants of Abraham. (Not for the Khazarian converts from Russia who never bothered to intermarry with a single actual descendant of Abraham in the 1000 years they've been saying they are Semitic, but convinced the Rothschild bankers to somehow give them a nation. It's illegal in Israel to take a DNA test unless by court order because they don't want Ashkenazic to know that nearly all of them have no genetic ties to the Middle East whatsoever.) Israel will be restored in peace, which is why many bible scholars like the late Dr. J. Vernon McGee never believed prophesy was fulfilled in 1948 with the creation of Israel. Dr. McGee's Through The Bible radio program https://www.ttb.org/ is broadcast worldwide in over 200 languages in every nation of the world except N. Korea and, you guessed it, Israel. (They finally got it translated into Hebrew with great difficulty and were taken off the air immediately. It's also illegal to broadcast the teachings of Jesus in Hebrew in Israel.)
11 “In that day I will restore David’s fallen shelter—
I will repair its broken walls
and restore its ruins—
and will rebuild it as it used to be,
12 so that they may possess the remnant of Edom
and all the nations that bear my name,”
declares the Lord, who will do these things.
13 “The days are coming,” declares the Lord,
“when the reaper will be overtaken by the plowman
and the planter by the one treading grapes.
New wine will drip from the mountains
and flow from all the hills,
14 and I will bring my people Israel back from exile.
“They will rebuild the ruined cities and live in them.
They will plant vineyards and drink their wine;
they will make gardens and eat their fruit.
15 I will plant Israel in their own land,
never again to be uprooted
from the land I have given them,” says the Lord your God.

The prophets knew how to pray, how to listen. We must learn how to pray too. Give yourself enough time, 4 hours if you feel called.
